In General, light
consists of electric and magnetic waves at
right angles to one another, appears
in all possible planes relative to the
source. Polarization at this point is
considered random and has no preferred
direction. If polarizing material is
inserted, the planes in which the
electromagnetic waves travel can be
controlled such that only a single plane
exists. If the transmission axes
(polarized planes) are parallel, the light
will be transmitted. If they are
perpendicular, no light will pass. By
varying the angle between the transmission
axes, it is possible to control the
intensity of the transmitted light.
